Privacy Policy
Last updated August 2026
MyCosmo is free and open source, and built to avoid collecting personal data. This policy explains what the app stores and which external services it talks to.
Data we collect
MyCosmo has no account system and no server of its own. Your personal observation journal entries - title, description, category, and up to three photos - are stored locally on your device using SwiftData.
External APIs
MyCosmo fetches public content from NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) API and the Spaceflight News API. These requests retrieve only public, read-only content and don't include any personal data.
If you add your own NASA API key in Settings for higher request limits, it's stored locally on your device and sent only to NASA's API as part of these requests - never anywhere else.
Third-party services
MyCosmo has no third-party dependencies, analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs - only Apple frameworks and the two public APIs above.
Open source
MyCosmo's source code is publicly available on GitHub under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license, so its data handling can be independently verified.
Data retention and your rights
Your data stays on your device for as long as you keep the app installed; deleting MyCosmo removes all locally stored observation journal data. Because MyCosmo has no account and no server, rights under GDPR like access, rectification, erasure, and portability are already in your hands - your data never leaves your device to begin with. For anything else, or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority, you can reach out using the contact details below.
Children's privacy
MyCosmo is not directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect personal data from anyone.
